On September 25th 2015, countries adopted a set of goals to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda. Each goal has specific targets to be achieved over the next 15 years.
For the goals to be reached, everyone needs to do their part: governments, civil society and the private sector like us.
But, actually, what does “sustainable” really mean and how can companies like Infosys support these goals?
Sustainable development has been defined as a development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to satisfy their own needs.
Our company supports goals created by the United Nations. Sustainability Policy document drafted in 2008 articulated our commitment to make the business and stakeholders sustainable. As much as we care about those things, we also care about the ecosystem and lifestyle. Infosys helps its clients renew businesses and drive innovation. To be more specific, we were the first company in the world to make a commitment in the United Nations to become carbon neutral by 2018, reduce electricity consumption by 50% and use 100% renewable power by 2018.
We have made investments in carbon offset projects to support SDGs and we joined RE100 which means that we are now a part of the global platform committed to 100% renewable power. Being an organization that depends on the competence of the employees, we have managed to reduce the attrition rate from 18.9% in 2015 to 13,6% in 2016.
